Those Who Left is the second part of a trilogy announced with My Grandmother's Pagne. In this novel, Cameroonian poet and academic Yvette Balana poses the problem of migrants' return to their native country, taking the reader from the United States to France, via Brazil and sub-Saharan African countries. It is a captivating story, with a plurality of narrative voices, including that of Ellia, granddaughter of Nana-Benz, heroine of the first opus. This African emigrant living in the American city of San Diego is torn between two love stories, symbols of her dual attachment to both the host country and the country of origin.
